Who is eligible for a free Blood Pressure check?

You should have a blood pressure check if you:

  • Adults who are 40 years old or over, who do not have a current diagnosis of hypertension.

  • Patients, by exception, under the age of 40 who request the service because they have a recognised family history of hypertension may be provided the service at the pharmacist’s discretion.

  • Patients between 35 and 39 years old who are approached about or request the service may be tested at the pharmacist’s discretion.

Why should you get a free Blood Pressure check?

This new service is the latest step to identify thousands of people living with heart and circulatory diseases earlier to prevent over 150,000 heart attacks, strokes and dementia.

It's estimated that there are up to 4.8 million people in the UK living with undiagnosed high blood pressure, also known as hypertension, and most people don’t know they have it until they get it measured by a healthcare professional. It often doesn’t present any symptoms, which is why it is sometimes referred to as a silent killer, so it’s important that you get your blood pressure checked – especially if you have a family history of heart and circulatory disease.

By getting a free blood pressure check you can ensure you're taking the right steps now to look after your health.
