Online Doctor helps Zoe in her acne battle

Zoe Barradell from The Midlands contacted the Pharmacy2U Online Doctor service for help with her skin problems, having struggled with acne for a number of years.

The 27 year old, who is a project manager and blogs about lifestyle and beauty in her spare time, explains: “Strangely enough I don’t remember a time in my teens where I had bad skin, this started from the age of around 19. In fact I never even used to have to wear foundation when I was younger.

“I had skin problems on and off from this point and had used various different topical lotions, which seemed to work for a quick fix. I would still get the odd huge spot once every few weeks, but it was controllable. Over the past few years my skin got progressively oilier and I was always on the hunt to find products to control my oily skin. It got to the point where there wasn’t a day that went by that I had clear skin and I was blotting every hour. It became the norm and I just put up with it.”

Zoe contacted her local GP who suggested she switch to an alternative contraceptive pill and prescribed a course of antibiotics to try and clear the acne. She continues: “My skin became less oily, but it was very congested under the surface.

“I decided to contact the online doctor for a second opinion and found it less embarrassing than going to my doctor’s surgery bare-faced with such bad skin. It was a really easy service to use and I thought it was great that I could provide photos, as my condition is under skin and not always so visible in natural light. I was prescribed Skinoren cream and the doctor kept in touch to check how I was getting on with my treatment, which was great.”

Dr Nitin Shori, medical director of our Online Doctor service said: “Skinoren is prescription-only and can be a very effective way to treat acne. Its active ingredient is Azelaic Acid, which unblocks the pores and kills spot-causing bacteria. Usually applied twice daily onto cleansed skin, it often takes about a month to notice significant changes in the skin’s condition.”

Zoe adds: “Although I still have some way to go before I am totally comfortable bare-faced, I have started to see improvement and my skin is definitely less congested. After years of skin troubles, I finally feel that I am starting to make progress.”
