How to take Tadalafil
Tadalafil can be taken in two ways. For more spontaneity, it can be taken regularly, once daily as a 2.5mg or 5mg dose, to keep it in your system; this means you can enjoy sex without planning ahead or thinking about taking a tablet at a particular time. It takes about five days at first to become fully effective. Alternatively, it can be taken at a higher 10mg or 20mg dose just when it's required. When taking it like that, you should take a 10mg or 20mg tadalafil tablet at least 30 to 60 minutes before you have sex. Either way, it can take a few attempts for any erectile dysfunction medication to work, and sexual arousal is still required for it to have any effect.
Dosage
When taken on an 'as required' basis, the usual starting dose is a 10mg tablet, around 30 to 60 minutes before sex, up to once in a 24 hour period. If this does not work for you after at least 4 attempts, and no side effects are experienced, the dosage can be increased to a 20mg tablet. If taken on a daily basis, a 5mg tablet should be taken every day at the same time. If desired, or if side effects are experienced, this can be reduced to a 2.5mg tablet. No more than 20mg should be taken in a 24 hour period.
Effectiveness
Tadalafil is an effective treatment for erectile dysfunction. Once taken, tadalafil can work for up to 36 hours, meaning it can be taken ahead of being needed, reducing some of the need for pre-planning before sex. Food does not affect the speed at which the drug works.
Side Effects
As with all medicines, tadalafil can cause side effects, but not everyone experiences them. If taken at the recommended dosage, the side effects of this drug are usually mild and will pass with time. The most common side effects are headaches or an upset stomach. You may experience flushing, dizziness, memory problems, muscle pain or flu-like symptoms. More serious side effects include low blood pressure, blurred vision or abnormal ejaculation. If you experience any of these, or a prolonged and painful erection, stop using the medicine and seek medical assistance immediately.
Nitrates and Alpha Blockers
Taking tadalafil with medicines known as nitrates can cause a drastic drop in blood pressure. Nitrates are usually found in drugs used to treat chest pain and angina, and in the recreational drug ?poppers?. It is also not recommended to combine medicines called 'alpha blockers' with tadalafil. Always check with your doctor before combining any medicines and make sure you tell our doctors about any other medications you take. Always read the leaflet carefully before taking any medicine.
How long does it take to work?
Tadalafil should be taken at least thirty minutes before required. It can be safely taken several hours before it's needed as it stays in the body for up to 36 hours. Tadalafil may not work for everyone the first time it's taken; give yourself four to eight attempts with the drug before trying a different option.

How does it work?
An erection occurs when the penis fills with blood. The blood vessels that bring blood to the penis dilate, increasing the blood supply. Blood accumulates in the penis, causing an erection. Tadalafil works by increasing the blood flow into the penis, enabling a man to achieve an erection. It does not increase sexual arousal.

Who should not take tadalafil?
Do not take this drug if you have an allergy to tadalafil or any of the other listed ingredients. This is because the medication itself or increased sexual activity could put an extra strain on your heart. How do I take tadalafil?
Tadalafil comes as an easy to swallow tablet, which should be taken orally, with a glass of water. You can take the tablet with or without food. Alcohol may have a negative impact on the effect of the drug.
Can I take Tadalafil with other medication?
Patients taking any nitrate medication or Riociguat should not take tadalafil. These medications could interact and cause unexpected side effects. You must let your doctor know if you are taking any other medications, whether prescribed or purchased over the counter, especially alpha blockers, any high blood pressure medication, 5-alpha reductase inhibitors, protease inhibitors, phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine, rifampicin, erythromycin, clarithromycin or itraconazole. It is also important to let us know if you use, or have used, other erectile dysfunction medications.
